Tesla Cybertruck 1:18 Diecast Model

One of the most talked-about diecast models on the market today is the Tesla Cybertruck. This futuristic truck caused a stir when it was first unveiled in 2019, and the diecast version is no different—for better or worse. Let’s explore the hype surrounding the real Cybertruck, break down the details of this diecast model, and see how it compares to expectations. At the end, don’t forget to check out my YouTube videos for the unboxing and the full review!

The Cybertruck Phenomenon

When Tesla revealed the Cybertruck, it turned the auto industry on its head with its sharp, angular design and bold claims of armored glass and stainless steel construction. Love it or hate it, the Cybertruck is impossible to ignore. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a statement—a futuristic vision of utility and technology. Naturally, when Tesla announced a diecast model designed by their own studio, collectors like me couldn’t resist.

First Impressions

The box is exactly what you’d expect from Tesla: sleek, black, and minimalist, with no detailed information. Inside, the truck is carefully wrapped in tissue paper, housed in a recyclable carton. A neat touch, but surprisingly, the model isn’t strapped down—you can lift it right out. Upon unboxing, the truck is shinier than expected, with reflective panels that catch the light.

Removing the stickers from the doors, I started exploring the features. The rear tailgate opens to reveal the tonneau cover, a simple plastic sheet. Tucked inside the truck bed is a small fitted box containing a suction tool for opening the frameless doors. While all four doors open wide, disappointingly, the frunk doesn’t open.

Prototype vs. Production

Here’s where things get interesting: this diecast model leans heavily towards the Cybertruck’s prototype design rather than the production version.

Exterior Features

  • Prototype Design: The narrow front bumper and lack of side mirrors scream prototype. The headlights are limited to a light bar, and the truck bed features shiny exposed stainless steel rather than the practical black lining of the production model.

  • Missing Details: Notable omissions include the massive windshield wiper and side mirrors—key features of the production vehicle.

Interior Features

Inside, the prototype vibe continues with a yoke steering wheel and a rearview mirror mounted on the windscreen. The production model’s “squarecular” steering wheel and touchscreen rearview are nowhere to be found. The back seat lacks the production truck’s rear screen, and despite Tesla’s claim of a “carpeted” interior, this model’s cabin is barebones.

Build Quality

At 12.5 inches long, 4.75 inches wide, and 4.5 inches high, this model is huge, weighing in at 3.36 pounds. The panels fit together seamlessly, though the stainless steel finish is painted rather than authentic, giving it a reflective but somewhat artificial look. The tires, while realistic, lack suspension functionality, and the undercarriage is extremely basic.

Functionality

The doors open smoothly, the tailgate is magnetically secured, and the tonneau cover slides into place. However, the absence of a functional frunk and the omission of four-wheel steering—a signature feature of the real Cybertruck—are disappointing. At this price point, you’d expect more.

Final Verdict

For $300, this model has its highs and lows. It’s a striking piece for collectors who love futuristic designs or prototype models. But if you were expecting a faithful representation of the production Cybertruck, you might feel let down. The lack of detail and functionality compared to similarly priced models, like those from AutoArt, is hard to overlook.

Despite its shortcomings, the Cybertruck’s hype and uniqueness make it a conversation starter in any collection. Personally, I enjoy its bold design and the debates it sparks. It’s a fascinating addition to The Vault, but is it worth the price? That depends on your priorities as a collector.
